In memory of Jack Friedman - Pater Elias
Jack Friedman (Father Elias) was a cousin (my mother Miriam Freedman's first cousin). I visited him at Stella Maris in Haifa on a number of occasions,the first time I met him was in 1987. I always enjoyed my long philosophical conversations with him, in the quietness of the monastery. His library still remains, his books placed on the shelves as he left them. Every monk who passes on at Stella Maris, leaves their library behind, if they have one.
